Four Color Decks
At any table, whether it be in a tournament or a ring game
there is a table options or settings menu. About 80% of on line
poker sites will offer in this menu the choice of a 2 color or
4 color deck. In a standard 2 color deck there are red hearts
and diamonds and black clubs and spades. However, the 4 color
option offers you red hearts, blue diamonds, green clubs and
black spades. This option is for the most part helpful but can
in some cases be a problem.
The benefits of a 4 color deck is that it helps players that
are beginners with distinguishing between the suits. This is
most important when it comes to flushes. For different reasons,
size of the cards, quality of screens or connections and so
forth it can be difficult to just glance at the cards and know
the suit. A 4 color deck makes it a little more simple to read
the cards. Even for veteran players and players that prefer
speed poker games such as extreme turbo it creates a much
needed advantage. Once set, it should remain set even if you
log off the site. As with all of your table options, most sites
save your preferences and they are enabled as soon as you log
back onto the sit. If you are new to poker, try this option and
see if it helps you.
Keep in mind, the 4 color deck can create problems for you.
You can become used to having all 4 suits different and not pay
attention to the suits symbols. Hearts are always hearts, clubs
are always 3 leaf clovers ( or puppy toes ), spades are always
spades ( steamed broad leaf ) , and diamonds are always
diamonds. You do not want to get to the point that you forget
to look at these symbols on your cards. I have never played at
a land based table with a 4 color deck, at least not a standard
poker deck. If you begin to use this option as a crutch on line
it can led to mistakes when you have to return to 2 color deck
play.
As with all table options, experiment with them, see what
they are and how they work. Test them at Fun Money tables to
see how you like them and if they help or hurt your game. Just
because you have an option, does not mean you have to use it.
You have the choice so choose which is best for you and your
game. The important thing here and with any option is to see if
it gives you any type of edge and if it does, take advantage of
it. Poker is a friendly game but only to a certain point. It is
played for money and in the end, everyone at that table with
you is wanting to take yours away from you. Your opponents will
use what ever they have in their own arsenal to help them and
so should you. The bottom line is always play your cards the
best you can so if a 4 color deck helps you play better use
it.
